First of all thank you for your early tutorial release about Android jetpack compose.
Since the time has passed and the Jetpack compose has been released as an AndroidX dependency on Android 4.0 - canary 1, you might want to update the course with that kinda setup and also more advanced around the compose components.

Thanks @Faani! Yes, we plan on replacing this course with one that uses Android Studio 4.0 Canary 1 soon!
